Albany Pine Bush Preserve is truly a local treasure in the heart of the Capital Region! Globally rare, this preserve is one of the largest of only about 20 other inland pine barrens worldwide. It is home to 20 rare species and 2 rare natural communities.
The Discovery Center at the Albany Pine Bush Preserve hosts monthly outings and programs related to ecology and natural/cultural history of the pine bush area. In February 2010, the Center was awarded a LEED Gold rating for the design, construction and operation of a high performance green building.
In addition to the Discovery Center, the preserve also boasts public programs, preschool programs, school and special interest groups. Discovery Center hours are Tuesday - Friday, 9 am - 4 pm, Saturday and Sunday, 10 am - 4 pm, closed on Monday.
