Looking for dance this coming April? There are many opportunities around the area, no matter what your style.
Maybe you are looking to watch some dance, and perhaps be educated by it. Try the Ensemble Espanol’s Noche De Feria Gala Benefit on April 4, 2014. Guests will get to see a performance in the art of Spanish dance, have dinner, open bar, and dance to a DJ. The $100 admission goes to benefit this great school of dance in Des Plaines. Perhaps NIU’s Spring Dance Concert is more your thing. This year, the showings will be April 24-27. You will see performances in ballet, jazz, and modern dance for a ticket price of $16 for adults. Student and senior rates also available.
Looking to just dance the night away? You can find the live music of Chi-Town Hotshots at Side Street Studio Arts in Elgin on April 19. Dance to some authentic jazz for a mere $12 and support Tri-City Swing in their new dance space.
Need a whole weekend of dance? Several options are open to you this month. You may remember that Hawkeye is coming up soon (written about here). Those willing to drive to Indiana can participate in Purdue Night Train’s LAFLX. This lindy hop exchange occurs on April 11-13 this year. The whole weekend of dance can be had for $65, with housing options available. Speaking of exchanges, the Chicago Green Light Exchange is April 25-27. Get ready for tons of live music, walking tours of the city, and of course, dance. A weekend pass is $50. There you can dance to blues, hot jazz, jump blues, and swing to name a few. Also that same weekend is another great Chicago festival, the Chicago Spring Balboa Weekend. These two events are teaming up to bring you dancing greatness! Admission depends on the level of classes you are registering for, and automatically includes a weekend pass for the Chicago Green Light Exchange. Because it includes the $50 value pass, prices are anywhere from $70, on up to $120. This is a great opportunity to learn balboa, or advance your dancing to the next level.
