April brings exciting epicurean events to the Jersey Shore

April 7, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Eat, Drink Indulge - It's a unique and interactive evening where you become the winemaker for the night. Taste four different wines from Lyeth Estates, learn what differentiates them from one another and based on your own tastes, create your own perfect blend, which you can recreate your blend at home. April 8, 6-9 p.m. - Sample the Shore - Following the closing of Restaurant Madness in March, 94.3 The Point and Driscoll Foods will host their first-ever “Sample the Shore” Tasting Event. The $15 admission will feature several area restaurants, offering samples of the best cuisine at the Jersey Shore. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Autism Speaks. Later in the spring, check 94.3 The Point for the launch of the Jersey Shore’s own “Cuisine Network,” where you can see some of the area’s best chefs preparing selected dishes from their menus. The site will also feature some great recipes from around the Shore.

April 9, 6-8 p.m. - Stag’s Leap Wine Dinner at the Atlantic City Bottle Company (ACBC) and on-site speakeasy style bar/lounge, The Iron Room will host a specially-prepared four-course dinner paired with the exquisite wines of Stag's Leap Wine Cellars. Stag's Leap is one of California's earliest and most prestigious wine estates. Chef Kevin has developed a fabulous meal to pair with four marvelous Stag's Leap wines. The menu is as follows: Sauvignon Blanc will be paired with an Asparagus & Brussels Sprouts Salad with Black Mission Figs & Buttermilk Vinaigrette; "Hands of Time" Chardonnay will be served with Seared Atlantic Salmon with Wild Mushroom Ragu; "Hands of Time" Red Blend will nicely complement a Roasted Quail with Hollandaise, Aged Balsamic, and Fine Herbs; Artemis (Cabernet Sauvignon) is the perfect the Flat Iron Filet with Edamame, Sunny Egg, and a Petite Hash Brown. April 10, 7-10 p.m. Salt Creek Grille Anniversary Wine and Martini Fundraiser – The beneficiary this year is Hope for Children Foundation of New Jersey (HFCF). HFCF is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) charitable organization of young professionals, entrepreneurs and parents in Monmouth County working together to raise funds to make a difference in the lives of children and their families. Salt Creek Grille Managing Partner, Steve Bidgood, started the event 11 years ago to celebrate the popular, award-winning restaurant’s 5th anniversary and to support local charities. In addition to the evening’s fundraiser for HFCF, Salt Creek Grille employee, Brendan Kirchner, who will be running in the Jersey Shore Marathon on April 27, has pledged his run to raise additional funds for HFCF.
The evening includes six wine vendors, who will pour premiere wines and a spirits vendor who will be shaking specialty martinis. Salt Creek Grille will provide passed hors d’oeuvres, pasta and carving stations. Local business favorites will include artisanal cheeses from Sickles Market and a raw bar by Lusty Lobster. April 20, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. - Easter Brunch will take place at The Iron Room. Chef Kevin will be serving traditional brunch dishes with his own signature twist. Some of the dishes include: Eggs Benedict, Smoked Duck & Manchego Omelette, Goat Cheese, Manchego & Fine Herb Omelette, Buttermilk White Chocolate Pancakes, Comb Honey; and Brioche French Toast with Maple Syrup and Fruit Compote. April 22, 6-9 p.m. - 11th Annual Boss of the Sauce - a food tasting and competition where your vote will help name the 2014 Boss of the Sauce. Enjoy mouth-watering samples of red sauce, pasta and gourmet specialties from restaurants in Monmouth & Ocean Counties. The event is presented by Driscoll Foods. April 22, 7-9 p.m. - The Lost Distillery Company Scotch Dinner - The Iron Room will team up with The Lost Distillery Company for a unique Scotch and Dinner pairing. The event will coincide with the distillery’s release of "Benaccie" Scotch. The Lost Distillery Company is a boutique Scotch whisky maker. Their master archivist pieces together the story of how whiskies from closed distilleries might have tasted when they last distilled, with the goal to create present day interpretations of single malts of long lost legends. The evening will include fantastic pairings, such as Auchnagie (produced from 1812-1911) with Za’atar Crusted Seared Marlin with Udon & Pickles; Stratheden (produced from 1829-1926) with Smoked Absecon Bay Little Neck Clams, Chicken Liver Mousse, Pea Tendrils & Savory Orange Curd; Gerston (produced from 1796-1882) with Petite Lamb Tenderloin, Foie Gras Whipped Yukon Gold Potatoes, Snap Peas & Natural Jus. Chef Kevin’s menu will feature Double Simcoe IPA paired with Brussels Sprouts, Snap Peas with Lavender Goat Cheese Buttermilk & Honey; Verboten Belgian-Style Ale paired with Seared Atlantic Salmon, Faro, Cherries & Bacon; Blithering Idiot Barleywine paired with Fava Ravioli and Shaved Gouda with Olive Oil; and Heresy Imperial Stout paired with Hangar Steak, Smoked Fingerling Potato Salad and Hersey Jus.
