April 2014 weather review for Grand Rapids

April 2014 will be remembered for chilly temperatures. The low temperatures for the month were a bit below average. The average low temperature was 36.2° which is 1.50° below average. The high temperatures slightly warmer than normal. The average high was 59.00° which is 0.80° above average. The average temperature for the month, which includes both the highs and lows, was 47.6° which is 0.35° below average.

April was a dry month with Grand Rapids observing 2.62 inches, which was 0.73 inches below average. There were two rounds of severe weather during the month. The first was on April 12 with strong, damaging wind. The next severe weather event happened near the end of the month with large hail as the primary severe weather observation.

The April snowfall in Grand Rapids was average. The airport observed 1.80 inches which is typical for the month. Most of that snow fell on 14 April which set a new record for the date.

The observed sunshine was just a bit above average 58.0% of possible sunshine. In a typical April we see 51% so that makes last month 7.0% above average.
