If The Nightmare on Elm Street is not your cup of tea, then get ready for a few comedies in this week's new releases that will hopefully give you some good laughs. Inpired by true events, Pirate Radio takes us back to 1966 Great Britain where a band of deejays run Radio Rock from a ship in the North Sea defying the government that is trying to shut them and rock music down. Defendor is about a simple sans-superpowers guy with questionnable sanity that rises to become a true superhero when he arms himself with courage and vows to protect the innocent from the corrupt. From the Broken Lizard comes The Slammin' Salmon where former heavyweight champion turned owner of a Miami seafood restaurant needs money to pay off a gambling debt and decides to propose an irresistible contest to his waitstaff that makes them backstab and outdo each other to win. Tim Allen stars in Crazy on the Outside as an ex-con who had just spent three years behind bars taking the rap for his co-conspirator and now finds life on the outside is more chaotic than prison. Had enough of comedy? In a psychological thriller, Russell Crowe stars as Detective Cristofuoro in Tenderness who tracks a recently released juvenile murderer believing he may re-offend again with his newfound companion, a teenage runaway. Finally, two movies get re-released: 1) Disney's The Great Mouse Detective (1986) is digitally restored in the Mystery in the Mist DVD edition; and Apollo 13 comes out on Blu-ray for the very first time with new content exclusive to this release.
From the creator of Love Actually, Notting Hill and Mr. Bean series, Richard Curtis brings us Pirate Radio (also known as The Boat That Rocked). It is about the time period when the British government was attempting to censor rock music over the air waves. Taking place in 1966 Great Britain, Radio Rock broadcasts on a ship in the North Sea to feed the masses of rock music lovers and to avoid British jurisdiction that is trying to shut them down. It is run by station owner Captain Quentin (Bill Nighy) and his crew of deejays including reckless American The Count (Philip Seymour Hoffman), New Zealander Angus Nutsford (Rhys Darby), suave Doctor Dave (Nick Frost), "King of the Airways" Gavin (Rhys Ifans), Simple Simon (Chris O'Dowd) and two mysterious figures Midnight Mark (Tom Wisdom) and Bob Silver (Ralph Brown). Running the ship is lesbian cook Felicity (Katherine Parkinson) and radio assistants Harold (Ike Hamilton) and Thick Kevin (Tom Brooke). Joining this eclectic group that is bent on defying the government that despises rock 'n' roll is the Captain's godson who had been sent by his mother (Emma Thompson) to stay with him after school expulsion. Together they must fight for their right to their music and outwit government minister Dormandy (Kenneth Branagh) and his underling Dominic Twatt (Jack Davenport) before a stranded fishing vessel is sacrificed for their cause. The soundtrack boasts the best of the best including The Rolling Stones, The Who, Dusty Springfield, The Kinks, David Bowie and Jimi Hendrix.

Will Defendor be able to find his Captain
Industry and make the streets safe again?
Defendor is about Arthur Poppington (Woody Harrelson from Zombieland) who may be a little nuts but has a heart of gold. He believes he is a superhero in search for his archenemy Captain Industry, wearing his black turtleneck with a duct-taped "D" and arming himself with homemade gadgets. Despite his lack of finesse, he gains the support of his court-assigned psychiatrist Dr. Ellen Park (Sandra Oh) when he successfully rescues a local prostitute Kat Debrofkowitz (Kat Dennings from Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist) from the crime boss. With his new love interest Kat as his sidekick can he become a real superhero, bring down the crime boss and expose a dirty undercover cop Chuck Dooney (Elias Koteas)before they get killed?

What will they do to avoid being served by
the crazy "Slammin" Cleon Salmon?
From Broken Lizard, the creators of Supertroopers and Beerfest, comes The Slammin' Salmon. Former Heavyweight Champion of the World "Slammin" Cleon Salmon (Michael Clarke Duncan from The Green Mile) is now the owner of an upscale Miami seafood restaurant called The Slammin' Salmon. A horrible violent boss, he uses fear to intimidate his poor waitstaff (sexy Mia (April Bowlby), sleazy Guy (Erik Stolhanske), actor Connor (Steve Lemme), off-his-meds Nuts (Jay Chandrasekhar), medical student Tara (Cobie Smulders), newcomer busboy Donnie (Paul Soter) and gutless manager Rich (Kevin Heffernan)). When his own gambling debt problems catch up with him and he needs to find a way to pay the Japanese Yakuza, he stoops to a new all-time low. He offers a contest to his waitstaff to motivate them, where the one who sells the most food will win $10,000 and the one in last place will get a special "broken rib" sandwich courtesy of Salmon. Encouraged by greed and fear, they all vie against each other pulling one impossible hilarious stunt after another to ensure they are not the one in last place. Sendhil Ramamurthy ("Heroes"), Vivica A. Fox, Morgan Fairchild, and Olivia Munn ("G4") are some of the stars who make an appearance.
