Hundreds of children die each year due to the use of tourture in public schools. Often this use is due to misinformed teachers and staff who are not supported financially or emotionally by the school administration. Sometimes the abuse is due to people who do not care or do not value the students they work with. Below are the questions on the fact sheet put together by APRAIS which is the Alliance to Prevent Restraint, Aversuve Interventions and Seclusion.
There are currently 19 states that do not have any regulations on restraining, aversive interventions or seclusion. TASH appears to be leading the cause to get more attention to the issue so lawmakers will implement needed regulations. they are currently asking people to answer a very brief survey concerning the treatment your children received in school. You may find the survey at: APRAIS survey.
Any parent who is advocating for a child in school whether they have a diagnosis or not should read the information and become familiar with it, just in case. Most of this applies to children who are typically developing as well.
