Approachable and affordable Cabernet Sauvignon from California's North Coast

Joseph Carr teamed with Tom Larson to produce his second label, named “Josh Cellars”—his “vin de garage”—as he jokingly refers to it. It is a North Coast Vineyard project, from sites organically and sustainably farmed.

As Joseph Carr likes to tell it, Josh Cellars is dedicated to his father, “My father’s name was Joseph, as is mine, but his close friends just called him “Josh.” At the end of his workday, he, like many of his friends would tinker around in the garage, laughing, telling stories and working on an old car with spare parts, surprisingly, none that were meant for the original vehicle. After we’re done producing our portfolio of Joseph Carr wines, we like to sit around “the garage,” we call a wine cellar, and tinker with a few things. Growers we call friends come by and we laugh, tell stories and produce a wine that I fondly refer to as a “vin de garage.” These wines are named after my father, as they are expressive, but unassuming and approachable – just like him.”

Josh Cellars North Coast Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a single vineyard in the mountains of the Red Hills, where, for the past 10 years, all grapes have been organically grown and
sustainably farmed. The appellation sits at the highest section between the Vaca and Mayacamas mountain ranges. The Mayacamas are famous for great Cabernet wine because of the Red Hills unique traits: high elevation sunlight combined with the rich volcanic red soils and obsidian fragments. This Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon is no exception to the uniqueness of the region.

The wine complex in taste, but approachable, with big bold flavors that, have their own story to tell.
Josh Cellars North Coast Cabernet Sauvignon begins with pleasant fruit-driven aromas
of black cherry, red licorice, a little vanilla, a bit of bramble and a hint of menthol.

The primary elements on the palate are, in fact, deeper and more complex than expected. The
flavors are smooth, juicy and fruit-forward featuring soft tannins, strawberry, black currant
and black cherry with a nice bit of spice with gentle oak nuances leading into the dry finish.

The soft, juicy mid-palate offers a bit of backbone. What can we say? This is a sleek, sturdy red with clean, dark berry fruit. The pleasant, fresh, red berry finish is fast, with a slight clasp of tannins.

This is a solid, tasty Cabernet at a fantastic price. It is an excellent bargain that will pair well
with a homemade pepperoni pizza, chile con carne or a big batch of spaghetti with smoked
peppers.

You can find this wine at Circus Wines/Spirits Unlimited, 835 State Highway 35, Middletown, NJ 07748 for $14.99
