The Urban Fellows Program is a selective nine-month fellowship where applicants work in the NYC Mayoral office and various city agencies. The Program participants come from all over the country to work in New York City. They learn hands on techniques and responsibilities of working and making decisions in NYC agencies. Alumni work in high levels and all areas of government and private industries.
The lessons interns learn are further enhanced by trips to Washington, D.C. and Albany. They meet elected officials who shape policy in New York City. The Urban Fellows Program is sponsored by New York City and administered by the Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS).
The fellowship begins September 2, 2014 through May 9, 2015. The Program provides a $30,000.00 stipend and health insurance. The health insurance does not include dental and vision. The Program also does not provide scholarships, financial aid, student loans or housing. There are twenty-five individuals selected each year. Applications for the Urban Fellows Program are due by January 10, 2014 at 5:00 p.m. eastern standard time. In February, you will be notified by email of your application status. In mid-March, the final interviews will be held in NYC and by the first week of April, all applicants will be notified of their status.
Eligibility requirements are when you receive your BA or BS degree from an accredited four-year college. To be eligible, you must have received your degree between spring 2012 and spring 2014. Those receiving their degrees before or after the dates are not eligible. All candidates must also put on hold any graduate study in and/or outside the US until the completion of the fellowship. Applicants must also commit full-time to the nine-month fellowship. There is no age limit, as long as you receive the degree within the time frame. You do not have to be a US citizen; however, you must be able to work within the US. You will need to fill out an I-9 (Employment Eligibility Verification) form.
