Apply for the 2011 World Championships of Beach Ultimate

The third World Championships of Beach Ultimate (WCBU) will take place Aug. 22-28, 2011, just north of Venice, Italy, in Lignano Sabbiadoro. USA Ultimate has begun accepting applications – and the sooner the better, because athletes who apply before Dec. 31 won’t have to pay the $25 application fee.

Held once every four years, WCBU fields about 80 ultimate Frisbee teams in six different divisions and is co-hosted by the World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) and Beach Ultimate Lovers Association (BULA). Athletes will face off at the region’s Getur Sports Complex.

USA Ultimate will send one team in all six sections: open, women’s, mixed, masters, mixed masters and grand masters.

Athletes will be chosen to represent the U.S. ultimate community based on skill, experience, spirit, ambassadorship, reliability, geographical representation, team chemistry, historical participation and past contributions to the sport of beach ultimate.

Experience in beach ultimate doesn’t rank as a requirement, though it does help showcase skills in the more precision-based form of Frisbee.

Participation costs vary, but USA Ultimate estimates an average of $600 per person for lodging, food and registration fees, plus airfare.

To apply, complete the online application form at usaultimate.org. Applicants must be current members of USA Ultimate.
