Appleton Estate 21 is a classic full bodied, smooth, amber spirit -- an 86 proof sipping rum of the highest order. This connoisseur-worthy blend includes the finest Jamaican rums, matured in oak at least 21 years, then blended and aged two more years.
Appleton Distillery operates five classic copperpot stills as well as modern and efficient column stills, each used to make unique components for their many blends. Each rum marque is carefully selected by Appleton's Master Blender for its unique character, flavor and bouquet. They are combined artfully to create a beautiful copper appearance with spicy and wooded notes, a characteristic of cane spirits long aged in Jack Daniels whiskey barrels.
Initial aromas of molasses and mellow orange peel lead to deep vanilla with facets of rich nutmeg and vibrant almond, a musky earthy note enhanced by hints of warm coffee and cocoa. Flavors of toasted oak and roasted hazelnut and dark molasses, followed by citrus and dried apricot are not too sweet, with a very long and spicy, warm, semi-dry finish.
The Appleton Estate dates back to 1655 when the British captured Jamaica from the Spanish. Documentation suggests that rum has been produced there continuously since 1749. The estate is located in the center of the island in the area known as the Cockpit Country of Nassau Valley where clean, clear water bubbles up from the head of the Black River.
Appleton rums are imported and marketed in the United States by Kobrand Wine and Spirits.
