The "God" receipt waitress was fired after posting a customer's check online that showed a diner's religious justification for leaving a big fat goose egg for a tip. Waitress Chelsea Welch lost her job after the customer complained to the restaurant after discovering that her note to the waitress had gone viral, according to a Jan. 31, 2013 report by Yahoo! News.
Pastor Alois Bell visited the restaurant with a large group of other diners. When she received the bill, an 18% tip had automatically been added to the total. The pastor took a pen and scribbled off the tip, adding a zero with a line drawn through it and a rather uncharitable note that read, "I give God 10%. Why do you get 18?"
The "God" receipt waitress posted the pastor's restaurant bill, and her nasty note, in the website Reddit where it didn't take long for it to spread across the Internet. An acquaintance recognized the signature scrawled across the bottom of the receipt and advised Bell of her Internet sensation status. Bell wasn't pleased.
The pastor at Truth in the World Deliverance Ministries Church had this to say about the incident. "My heart is really broken. I’ve brought embarrassment to my church and ministry." She could have added that she also shamed herself. Not only did she stiff a hardworking waitress on a tip, but she also got the Applebee's "God" receipt waitress fired. It may be time to ask herself "What would Jesus do?" He probably would have left a tip.
