The Apple spokesman who called the demand for the iPhone 5s 'incredible' last week was not exaggerating. Today, Apple has released their sales numbers and has revealed that they have sold 9 million new iPhones, including the iPhone 5c.
The company didn't go into the specifics of how much was sold of each phone, but PCMag reports they are simply saying the numbers broke records. Along with those numbers, Apple revealed that 200 million Apple devices have made the update to iOS 7. Apple is saying it's the fastest software upgrade in history. They didn't specify if they meant in their history, or in the history of all devices.
For a frame of reference, the iPhone 5 launch saw 5 million devices sold after the first three days and the iPhone 4 launch sold 4 million Apple phones. Considering Apple was releasing two different products this go around, the numbers might seem a little extreme. When Apple release the breakdown, it seems that those figures will be more telling of the consumers' demand for the newest iPhone or just the cheapest version of an already available device.
The New York Daily News reports that following the success of the smartphones, Apple's stock rose 5 percent.
