Apple sold 9 million iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c models in their opening weekend. That's almost twice the number of iPhones that Apple sold last year during the launch weekend for iPhone 5, according to a September 23 report in The Telegraph. In addition to the United States, the iPhone 5s and 5c were simultaneously launched over this past weekend in Australia, Britain, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico and Singapore.
Over 1,000 customers waited in line for Apple's flagship Fifth Avenue store in Manhattan to open at 8am on the first day of launch weekend. Similar crowds were visible at other Apple retail stores. But customers could also get an iPhone 5s or 5c at other stores like Best Buy, Target, Radio Shack and Wal-Mart. Customers could also purchase an iPhone 5s or 5c from wireless carriers like Verizon and ATT. In fact, some of the best deals could be found at the wireless carriers.
At Sprint for instance, you could (and still can, as of this writing) get a new iPhone 5s for just $99 and a new iPhone 5c for free when you adopt Sprint as your carrier. In fact, if you already have an older iPhone you can sell it to Sprint and they will pay you enough to cover the $99 fee for the iPhone 5s—making it free too! Wow, a new iPhone 5s or iPhone 5c absolutely free—what a deal!
The iPhone 5s is Apple's top-of-the-line phone known for its fingerprint identity sensor (called Touch ID), although it has many advanced features. Some of these features are an advanced camera that offers burst mode (great for action pics), an automatically adjustable flash to light your subject just the right way, a desktop quality 64-bit chip (the iPhone 5s is the first smartphone in the world to offer this) that opens up a world of possibilities like console like graphics and gaming—plus lots more.
The iPhone 5c is known for its colorful varieties (it's available in white, red, yellow, blue and green) and while its internals are based on iPhone 5, it supports more LTE bands (so it can be used in more countries when you travel), sports a better FaceTime camera and provides longer battery life than iPhone 5 with 10 hours of LTE browsing time, talk time or video playback time.
Whether you get the iPhone 5s or the iPhone 5c, you'll also get Apple's new mobile operating system, iOS 7, which is jam-packed with new features like iTunes Radio, and an beautiful new interface. What's more, whether you get an iPhone 5s or 5c you will get a suite of Apple's productivity apps—Pages, Numbers, Keynote, iPhoto and iMovie absolutely free.
With all of these advances in both hardware and software over the previous iPhone version, is it any wonder why Apple sold 9 million iPhone 5s and 5c units in just 3 days? Tell us what you think.
