OK, iPhone update 7.0.3 is finally here. It includes a lot of bug fixes and iOS enhancements. Some of these interest me, and some of these concern me. Here are some highlights:
iOS 7.0.3 includes an iCloud Keychain which keeps track of lots of information: credit card numbers, passwords, and account names; I don’t store credit card numbers or passwords on any sites; I key them in when needed. For me, it just doesn’t seem safe to allow companies to have this information on hand. From personal experience, I’m tired of having my credit card information compromised.
In addition, this update:
- adds the slide-unlock function for Touch ID users
- returns the Spotlight function to search the Web/Wikipedia
- fixes bugs related to iMessage, accelerometer calibration, and the Lock Screen Passcode
- improves iWork Apps
- . . . and much more
Completing the update is a little involved, so I’ve separated it into sections: Tap Settings > General > Software Update > Install Now > Agree in the bottom right corner > allow your phone to verify your information so it can update > your phone will turn on and then off > a progress bar will appear under an apple showing how much time is left to complete the update.
When your phone begins to say “Hello,” in many different languages, you are ready to set your preferences: Slide > enter your passcode if necessary > tap Continue > enter you’re Apple password > follow the prompts to set your preferences > tap Next in the upper right corner.
Follow the prompts to set your iCloud Keychain. If you have forgotten your passcode, again, follow the next set of prompts. I had to enter my cell phone number.
Then complete the Registration by tapping: Next in the upper right corner > Get Started. Your iPhone desktop should appear.
I always suggest updating to the latest iOS, but with this one, I recommend reading the preferences as you update, and also reading all of the functionality information included with the update. This can be found by tapping Learn More after tapping Settings at the beginning of the update process.
If your iCloud preferences include a Keychain connection between your iPhone and another device, a notification window will appear on the other device. Follow the prompts to activate the connection.
