If you were hearty enough to get up early and stand in line at one of the stores selling Apple’s newest iPad, you would have been able to purchase one, and have it today. For those of you who did this, that’s awesome – you are among the few who are now holding Apple’s latest and greatest iPad Air!
Apple’s iPad Air became available for on-line purchase about 3:30 A.M. EST. Its stated delivery date, at that hour, was between November 12-14, so I ordered one. When I called Apple this morning, to upgrade my shipping, (which they did for free) I was informed that I could expect delivery by November 11-12. Well, they tried.
I knew there had to be a better way, so I called my service provider, ATT. When I spoke with their representative, Carmel Fladt, she was able to order my new iPad Air 64 GB + Cellular and set up my data plan; it will be delivered within 1-2 business days. Then I cancelled my order with Apple.
As for ATT, this is the second time I was able to shop directly through them, and get a quicker delivery date. I’m not sure why, but Apple doesn’t seem to have the stock or delivery power that ATT has.
So, here’s a little more info if you are looking to purchase or order an iPad Air. Apple’s on-line store is posting a delivery date of November 4, but according to an Apple representative, that’s probably not accurate. There are many orders being placed for this device, and the shipping/delivery dates are being pushed back.
In addition, when I called to check availability at the Westfarms Apple Store, Farmington, CT, they are pretty much out of stock. They had no Cellular-WiFi models left, and the 128 GB device was one of the first to sell out. They are not taking orders for in-store pick up.
You can try calling Best Buy in West Hartford; as of 12:30 this afternoon, they still had a few iPad Air WiFi devices left in stock. (I was not able to reach Best Buy in Simsbury.) Walmart in Avon is completely sold out.
An ATT rep in Canton, CT stated that they could pre-order your iPad Air and have it shipped within 3-5 business days. This requires in-person, in-store ordering.

Remember, the iPad mini won’t be available for purchase or on-line ordering until later in November.
When my new device arrives, I’ll give you the highlights and let you know whether it was worth the upgrade.
