Apple responds to missing Flash on new MacBook Air models

Think back to Wednesday.

Apple hosted a Back to Mac event that actually proved pretty darn fruitful. For those that were in the wilderness or hiding beneath a rock, Cupertino announced a new iLife suite, (iLife ’11), they unveiled FaceTime for Mac (which has a minor security flaw), they gave us a preview of the upcoming OS X 10.7 Lion which is a combination of iOS and OS X features, and they also released new MacBook Air models.

An 11.6 inch for $999 and a 13.3 inch model for a little bit more expensive.

Right from the get-go though, there seemed to be some trouble brewing. Several outlets reported that the new MacBook Airs were without Adobe Flash on arrival and many speculated that this was another shot at Adobe.

Others were just downright confused.

Well, Apple has cleared the air on the case of the missing Flash and apparently the lack of pre-installed Flash is going to be a policy for the future. Here’s what they had to say to Engadget:

We're happy to continue to support Flash on the Mac, and the best way for users to always have the most up to date and secure version is to download it directly from Adobe.

Hard to say if that’s a slight against Adobe or not but whatever the reason, it looks like pre-installed Flash is out on the new MacBook Airs at the very least and you’re going to have to download the plug-ins yourself.

Thanks, Apple.

Not.

I don't blame them. It seems like there has been so many updates to flash lately, that if they were to include it - the first time a user started their computer, they'd get a notice that they needed to update flash. Might as well have the user install the newest safest version anyway.
