With over 100,000 apps released for the iPhone and iPod Touch, Apple is looking to get itself into the act of app development by hiring its own app developer.  Apple is currently looking for someone to develop apps for the iPhone and iPod Touch under the Apple banner with at least 3-4 years of experience in developing games and apps.

This move by Apple is a watershed moment in handheld gaming as it demonstrates that Apple is getting into the gaming market with the iPhone and iPod Touch.  You’ve seen the devices become more accepted as a gaming device with the release of several games like NBA Live, Madden, and Rock Band  and ports of famous arcade games from Namco.

Apple is clearly going after the Nintendo DS and the PSP in its pursuit of gaming goodness in the palm your hand.  Apple sees the iPhone and iPod Touch as a legitimate gaming device and I believe it can be accomplished with the right developer.  This is also the opportunity of a lifetime the developer that gets hired by Apple is they will no doubt get nearly unlimited resources at their disposal as well as limitless exposure.
