Patently Apple has detailed a new Apple patent application that would be used in Mac OS X titled “Safe Deposit Box”.
The “Safe Deposit Box” is a place where users can drag and drop certain items which will then be automatically secured and encrypted. The “Safe Deposit Box” may also automatically sync to an off-site location like Dropbox. Access to the “Safe Deposit Box” would require a user name and password like when installing certain applications on a Mac.
This patent images do not show iOS being involved but maybe the MobileMe revamp will be involved in some way.
Apple seems to be trying to take on many companies as of late with MobileMe rumors rivaling Facebook, Ustream and Foursquare while Mac OS X seems to be adding in these Dropbox-like features.
As a proud Dropbox user, this seems like a great addition to OS X. Check out the images here. Check the source here for full details.

As a Dropbox user, I already use this app I found on the App Store called Vault. Works for me, thanks Apple for being late to the game!
