It has been an extremely long time (or for some maybe a welcome reprieve) from my last article. For that I apologize, but I've been busy.
A lot of that time has been with my iPhone 4s and Siri, but most of it has been legal related. No, I wasn't litigating the Apple patent and trademark disputes in Germany, I was right here in Massachusetts. We have important stuff going on too...I promise, really important stuff.
One of the things I use my iPhone for is my work. I'm a Public Defender, and I represent clients in the district courts. When I'm appointed to a case it is because a client "qualifies" for appointed counsel. Now, there is a whole lot of math that goes into that calculation, and the fact is, I don't think I could do it, and I worry a lot that the people whom shall not be named that make this determination cannot do it either.
A friend and colleague of mine has been working on a nice web app that will allow you to plug in the numbers and determine your clients available income. It's a great little tool that is still in the process of being perfected, so I'm going to hold off on publishing any links to it yet.
But, I did want to get a feel for what you are using your iPhone for? So, Massachusetts, let me hear it. Where does your iPhone make a difference in your career.
For me, the iPhone 4s is a great calendar, email device, research tool, and now it's a (in progress) perfected device for calculating indigency determinations under Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court Rule 3:10 (and those accompanying rules that I think should be governed by 3:10...just sayin').
This may not be the kind of breaking tech news you're used to coming out of this page, but hey, it was never really that breaking anyway...right?
