Apple will hold a media event tomorrow to announce at least one new iPhone. For the past year, several rumors have emerged for up to three different iPhones being announced.
According to MacRumors, there is the possibility of an iPhone 5, iPhone 4S or economical iPhone 4 being announced tomorrow. More than one of the devices could be announced for sale around October 14, according to Computerworld.
The economical iPhone 4 will basically be a cheaper iPhone 4 with a smaller hard drive to replace the 3GS as its bargain iPhone. The iPhone 4S will be an improved iPhone 4 that is GSM and CDMA universal, 1GB of RAM, the iPad 2 A5 processor, an SGX 543MP2 GPU and an improved voice recognition program.
As for the iPhone 5, little more is known about what would separate it from the iPhone 4S. There were some rumors reporting 4G data speeds, but that could also appear on the iPhone 4S.
The most interesting thing about the media event tomorrow will be how Apple’s new CEO Tim Cook handles the spotlight. Cook, 50, was Steve Jobs’ hand picked successor who has temporarily filled in as CEO for Jobs while he was on medical leave, but now the promotion is permanent. While Jobs may make a cameo at the event, it will be Cook that has to do the heavy lifting during the presentation.
Apple will not stream the media event live like previous events, according to 9to5Mac. However, further information will be available following the event on Apple’s website.
