On October 29-30, 2011 the City of Kimmswick, just south of St. Louis will be celebrating fall with its annual Apple Butter Festival. Vendors will sell crafts, musicians will entertain with the sounds of Bluegrass, children will enjoy activities and games and of course, there will be lots of delicious apple butter for sale.
Each year, this popular festival draws in approximately 100,000 visitors, proving that it's a great place to bring your family to make some fun fall memories. Moms and dads, definitely bring your cameras along as you'll want to snap pictures of your kids visiting with Clifford the Big Red Dog, making new friends in the petting zoo or taking a train ride.
In the midst of all the fun, the sweet fragrance of apples fills the festival. Visitors can "step back in time" and help stir the kettle of apples that will later become apple butter, perhaps giving you a chance to pass down family stories of a time when canning and storing fruit for the winter was a way of life.
Kimmswick is just one half hour from downtown St. Louis, so it's an easy day trip to make with your family. You'll enjoy the atmosphere of the festival and the rich history of Kimmswick that shines through in both the people and the town. The Apple Butter Festival is the perfect time to see Kimmswick at its best, while enjoying some quality time with your family and friends.
