For the past 6 months the Internet has been buzzing with the news of the newest iPhone to be released this fall. Today at 1 p.m. EST Apple held a Liveblog to announce the latest additions to the iPhone family—iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S and using OS7 for iPhones and iPads—released September 18th (iOS 7) and 20th (iPhones)!
Apple started the presentation discussing iOS 7 that will be available for iPhone 4 and later, iPad 2 and later, iPad mini, and iPad touch (5th generation). Also with this OS they will be providing iWork, iPhoto, andiMovie for free. They are also launching iTunes radio.
Next they discussed the iPhone 5C which will be available in lime green, white, blue, pink, and yellow. The phone will have a 4-inch Retina display, integrated touch layer, A6 processor just like the iPhone 5, larger battery, an 8-megapixel rear camera, and a new FaceTime HD camera on the front. It will support more LTE brands than any other smartphone in the world, dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0. These phones will be released at $99 for 16GB and $199 for 32GB with a two-year contract. Their cases are $29 each.
The iPhoneS will be available in slate, gold and silver. The new phone will use a new system-on-a-chip processor called A7 which is a 64-bit chip making it the first smartphone to ever use 64-bit architecture. It will run 32-bit and 64-bit apps. It should have a 40x CPU performance bump and the graphics are 56x faster. The phone will run OpenGL|ES 3.0 for better quality and smoother video. The new processor will run with M7, a motion coprocessor that will continuously measure motion data, measures accelerometer, compass and gyroscope. The battery life is 10 hours for 3G talk time, LTE browsing, Wi-Fi browsing and Video; 40 hours for music; and the standby is 250 hours! The camera has a new five-element lens with a 15 percent larger sensor active area and F2.2 aperture. The security on the phone is called Touch ID which uses your fingerprint as the ID and can read in any orientation. The phone will cost $199 for the 16GB, $299 for the 32GB and $399 for the 64GB models with a 2-year contract. The cases are $39 each.
