Madonna … Born Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone in August 1958 in Bay City, Michigan … amazingly with a name so long and colorful, she and friends refer to her as simply “M”. Though in all of her 53 years, she has picked up many nicknames, most of her adoring fans refer to her as The Queen of Pop or The Material Girl.

Author, Actress, Dancer and Singer, Madonna’s biggest marks on society are her lyrically provocative songs and her fashion statements. In the 80s, she was a force to be reckoned with, selling multi-million-selling albums, as little teeny boppers rushed the stores to get the ‘Madonna-look’, whether it be the famous cone bras, mud stained jeans, rosarie/cross jewelry or the corseted leotards & tights, then off to the beauty shop for curly bobs to slick straight locks. A Madonna store was opened in New York to cater to the masses. She also reportedly announced in 2003 that she was going to start a doll, apparel and home décor line, based off of her best selling children’s book, ‘The English Roses’. One of Madonna’s trademarks is that she recreates herself with each new album. (See photo slideshow to review Madonna’s looks.)(View or purchase 'The English Roses' at http://www.amazon.com/English-Roses-Madonna/dp/0670036781 )
Madonna has had her share of controversy. She has never been able to live down the not only lip-locking but tongue-locking kiss with Brittany Spears (see slideshow for the ‘hot shot’.) She has photo shot nude at least three times, appearing in Penthouse and in the interview book “Sex”. She was condemned by Puerto Rico after she slid a Puerto Rican flag through her legs during a concert performance. When ‘Like a Prayer’, was released in 1989, it caused international controversy, with images of burning crosses, murder, and racism, causing Pepsi to retract a cross-promotional $5 million contract. Fans loved it, making it No. 1 on the charts for three weeks, and ‘Like A Prayer’ continues to be played to this day. Either way, Madonna has nothing to be ashamed about in the ‘singer achievement’ category, as she boasts 300 million plus records/CDs sold. Back in the year 2000, Rolling Stone measured her worth at about $650 million.
Through the late 1980s to early 2000s, she tried her hand at love and film, as she married and divorced both Sean Penn and Guy Ritchie. (She had two children: Lourdes Maria Ciccone Leon (aka Lola Leon) and Rocco Richie.) She took on several acting roles (such as Desperately Seeking Susan, Who’s That Girl, Dick Tracy, Evita to name a few), all of which received sometimes scathing reviews and never really made a mark.
Although she is rarely caught in a faux pas fashion moment (even when caught on camera in her casual garb of little/no makeup, tousled hair, jeans, t-shirt and sunglasses), her recent travels to promote her latest album touring of night show appearances and/or the superbowl halftime performance rehearsals must have gotten the best of her, as she appeared on Anderson Cooper’s talk show last Thursday with what appeared to be scraped up legs baring varicose veins. Legs obviously left unattended by the plastic surgeon. That, indeed, was not a good look. (see slideshow photo)(For more info on varicose veins, visit http://www.bing.com/health/article/mayo-MADS00256/Varicose-veins?q=varicose+veins&qpvt=varicous+veins)
In her Superbowl Halftime performance last night (with Cee Lo Green, Nicki Minaj, MIA and LMFAO) she played it safe in less than revealing ‘Vogue’ performance gladiator mini skirt dress and ‘Like A Prayer’ matrix type choir robe, as she bellowed through all her ‘oldies but goodies’. Madonna also took a moment to draw back from her high school cheerleading days as she took hold to the pompoms during her performance of her new single ‘Give Me All Your Luvin’, with the cheerleaders and marching band. Some may say 53 is old, but with all of the dancer-assisted flips and ‘going low to the flo’ moves she was making during her lip-synched performance, this ‘oldie’ looked pretty ‘goodie’!
