An Apollo Theatre collapse has left several people injured. On Dec. 19, CNN reported that a "rescue operation" is currently underway as several people are said to be trapped and casualties are expected. Police say that they received a call about a ceiling collapse but some say that an entire balcony fell, trapping people beneath. Witnesses say that some others were seen leaving the theater covered in dust.
"We are aware of a number of casualties but we have no further detail at this early stage," read a tweet sent out by local authorities. It is unknown how many people are injured.
The Apollo Theatre collapse occurred during a showing of "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time." It is unclear how many people were in the theater at the time of the ceiling collapse but the theater itself seats 775 people and the show was said to be "a full house." There are four levels of seating in the Apollo Theatre.
According to local news reports, police have said that 40 people were trapped and have all been rescued. Many had to be transported to nearby hospitals with unknown injuries. Again, the severity of these injuries are unclear. It's unknown if any one is in serious or critical condition.
The Apollo Theatre collapse is being investigated.
