Apollo Nida believes that people underestimate him. In an interview with Straight From The A, posted on Tuesday, June 17, Apollo, the husband of "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" star Phaedra Parks, responded to his critics who can't believe that someone like Phaedra would be married to him.
Ever since Apollo and Phaedra were introduced to viewers in the show's third season, many have wondered what brought Apollo and Phaedra together. On the surface, the two don't seem to be much in common. Phaedra, the daughter of preachers, grew up in a stable home and is a licensed attorney who has her own law firm. Since joining the show, she has also become an author and a licensed mortician.
Contrast this to Apollo, whose mom died from a heroin overdose in front of him when he was young and who grew up impoverished, tossed from family member to family member. Unlike Phaedra, he doesn't have the higher education degrees. What he does have is a criminal record.
This had led some to speculate that Phaedra was desperate to have a husband and got pregnant with Apollo simply because he's good looking. In his interview, Apollo admitted that it hurts when he reads comments like that on blogs. He pointed out that Phaedra is not a dumb woman and that there must be something redeeming about him for her to be with him.
"If I was a deadbeat… if I was no good… just a jailbird… whatever… you’re talking about an educated woman with many many accolades under her belt. You don’t think with all of that…. that she can pick a man???...There’s something that I had to offer," he said.
While Apollo Nida certainly believes that he's worthy of Phaedra Parks' love, whether she'll stick by him through his prison sentence, which he said she should do as his wife, remains to be seen. One thing's for sure, Phaedra's storyline for season seven of "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" will definitely be interesting!
