AP names Robert Griffin III NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year

The Associated Press gave Robert Griffin III the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year Award on Feb. 2, 2013.

Washington Redskins rookie quarterback, RG3 was given the award at an event in New Orleans on Saturday night, just three weeks after he had knee surgery.

He told reporters that he will return to the field next season as a better version of himself.

"I think you will see a different version of me ... I vowed to my teammates and myself that I would be a different player. You won't see the same Robert Griffin. You'll see a better Robert Griffin."

Finally Griffin got an award instead of a fine.

In December, the Redskins QB was fined $10,000 for wearing an Adidas sweatsuit instead of clothing from the team's official apparel supplier, Nike.

For the record, RG3 was not wearing an Adidas sweatsuit when he accepted the AP Award.

USA Today reports that Griffin stated on Saturday night that his knee rehabilitation was going well.

"It's truly blessing to be up here and be able to stand, first and foremost ... Sometimes it's not what you get for your team, but what you're willing to give for them."

During the awards event in New Orleans on Saturday night, actor Alec Baldwin gave Griffin some good-natured ribbing during the opening monologue.

Baldwin spoke about the hard year rookie quarterbacks had, "what with Griffin having to endure seeing a commercial he wasn't in."
