AOPA’s 2010 Fun to Fly Sweepstakes Remos Aircraft is scheduled to be at the Midwest LSA Expo next week. The Remos is a Light Sport Aircraft that seats two people and requiring only a Sport Pilot certificate to pilot the airplane. AOPA's 2010 Annual Sweepstakes aircraft has been a hit among the aviation community and attracted attention everywhere it's been. The sweepstakes has always previously awarded a used, rebuilt and modified airplane and the Remos was the first new aircraft awarded by the organization.
The Remos GX is a capable small airplane, with a cruise speed of 123mph thanks to it's 100hp Rotax engine. Due to the light weight, the plane has a climb rate of 1,280 fpm. The takeoff ground roll of only 300' and landing distance of 610' allows it to get in and out of virtually airport, no matter how small the runway. With a fuel burn rate of only 3.8 gph, the Remos has a 6 hours endurance and 480 mile range. The aircraft is still expensive in comparison to automobiles but brings a slightly more affordable option for planes. The Remos pricing varies from $127,000 to $148,000.
In addition to the AOPA Fun to Fly Remos, LSA expo will offer a first look at large number of new LSA aircraft, including many from international manufacturers. Some of the other aircraft expected to be on display are the Piper Sport, Jabiru, and the Polish Ekolot KR-030 among over a dozen other LSA aircraft.
The 2nd Annual Midwest LSA Expo will have more LSA's on display than last year and is expected to draw a larger crowd.
