Anzalone de-commits

Brian Kelly's possible flirtation with the NFL has already cost Notre Dame one recruit with the news that four-star linebacker Alex Anzalone has de-committed and will instead head to Florida. Anzalone had been set to enroll at Notre Dame this weekend to begin his Irish career, but now looks set to head to Gainesville instead.

Anzalone had been an Ohio State commitment originally, but backed out of that pledge to ultimately choose the Irish over the Gators. Still, rumors persisted that Anzalone was thinking of switching to Florida for weeks afterward and almost appeared as a lock for the Gators at one point. Anzalone, however, took a visit to Notre Dame and re-confirmed his pledge and began the process for early enrollment.

All that changed seemingly this week with the news that Kelly interviewed with the Philadelphia Eagles. Anzalone was rated as a high four-star recruit and the third best inside linebacker according to Rivals.com.

Anzalone is the third player to de-commit from Notre Dame this year joining earlier de-commits in linebacker Danny Mattingly and running back Jamel James. His loss gives Notre Dame 22 commitments overall now. They still have three other linebackers committed with five-star Jaylon Smith, four-star Doug Randolph, and three star Micheal Deeb.
