Any sharks out there before going for a swim?

With summer approaching and more open water swims around would be good to know where your favorite Great White is before you put on your wet suit and dive into the Atlantic.

OCEARCH has developed a web site that is currently tracing 50 Great White Sharks that range from 2000 to 5000 pounds. It is only a small sample of all that is out there but maybe one day all can be tracked.

OCEARCH is a non-profit organization making data on great whites available to researchers across the world to better understand their habits, biology, and movements.

Their web site shows a worldwide map that you can zoom in on where you can track the locations of those behemoths. A recent check of the web site shows two located off the Jersey Shore -“Genie” and “Princess”.

While shark attacks to humans are very rare especially along our coast it would be nice to know where all these sharks are lurking before going in the water.
