Hard Rock legends Anvil Philadelphia's own The Electric Boa played a show last night at the Selllersville Theater. It wasloud and it was good. The crowd was sparse but vocal. It was a Tuesday night and folks had to get up early for work or school. About half the seats were filled.
By 8:05 p.m. The Electric Boa took the stage. Thier set was short and sweet. Anvil fans that chose to bypass the opening band did themselves a disservice by not seeing what this band has to offer. a two song EP was for sale at the Boa merchandise table .It's all they had except T shirts, as the first pressing of their CD is sold out.
By 9:00 p.m. Anvil walked out on stage and those in the back of the house moved up. They wanted to see what this band could do. This is also one of the bands first shows with their new bass player Sal Italiano. Thier previous bassist, G-5 left on the eve of the tour. Italiano proved himself worthy of the spot on stage.
With a new bassist, some songs got left outof the set, such as "Flying Blind", from their come back album "This is Thirteen". According to front man Steve "Lips" Kudlow, "We only had a week and a half to learn the songs we did and to rehearse". With that being said. Anvil did play a boat load of songs. Of course "Metal on Metal" and "Forged in Fire" were played. "Thumb Hang" , written decades ago when Anvil drummer Rob Reiener and Lips were still in high school. was played.
Anvil were on stage for almost 90 minutes. It was a great show. Anvil met their fans after the show in the lobby, where fans could pick up a copy of "This is Thirteen" for just five dollars, which of course, the band were only too happy to sign.
