After a routine traffic stop, officers noticed the "Magic Man" had a fugitive warrant in Clark County, NV, where Las Vegas is located. According to TMZ, as of Monday, March 3, 2014, court records document Tarver has an outstanding debt with the Wynn Resort and Casino, located on the world famous Las Vegas Strip.

Tarver, a former boxing analyst for Showtime, was relieved of that post after being suspended by the California State Athletic Commission when he tested positive for a banned substance in a pre-fight drug test before facing Lateef Kayode. He and Kayode fought to a draw. The official outcome of the fight was later changed to a no contest.
