An anti-Semitic Elmo is going to be spending over a year behind bars for his racist comments and attempting to extort nearly $2 million from a pair of Girl Scout leaders. According to The Atlantic Wire this Wednesday, Oct. 9, a man who dressed up as the normally loveable “Sesame Street” figure has been recently sentenced to jail for twelve months by a judge. As for whether he’s keeping his Elmo costume, that’s probably a no.
The anti-Semitic Elmo named Dan Sandler (who often goes by the name Adam Sandler) is a 49-year-old who was formally sentenced to a year behind bars after being charged this Wednesday morning on extortion and related charges. Following a plea agreement, the rude and anti-Semitic man who shouted racist slurs at passerby in Central Park and often dressed as Elmo has gotten off easy by some, despite the set year jail term.
According to the report:
“Just before sentencing the Anti-Semitic Elmo (man Dan Sandler), that has also gone by the name Adam Sandler like the comedian, told Judge Robert Stolz that he was not remorseful [for his actions]. ‘This is not the case of someone in the back room of the office trying to embezzle money — this is more of a protest, like laying down in the intersection,’ Mr. Sandler added. ‘I am in no way sorry to the Girl Scouts organization, because I think they are a corrupt organization.’
Sandler had bargained for the full year jail term if he chose to plead guilty to the lesser law charges of third-degree stalking and attempted grand larceny. Sandler was accused of saying that he would spread false and cruel rumors about the Girl Scouts of America through over twenty messages he forwarded to a pair of Girl Scout leaders, both former bosses.
His price? The Anti-Semitic Elmo wanted to be paid a full $2 million. As he continued the wrongful correspondence with the employees, Sandler used his “Sesame Street” guise and cruel ways to harsh effect:
“I will show up at Girl Scout functions and other places that parents and kids congregate and hold signs, connecting the Girl Scouts with the Cambodian Rape Camp man,” he wrote in just one of the several dozens of emails.
While he spends his twelve months in jail, Sandler will seemingly need to leave his Elmo outfit, anti-Semitic remarks, and his other friends, like Big Bird, far behind.
