A homeless man wearing a costume in Times Square has been jailed and is now being known as the "Anti-Semitic Elmo." The Inquisitr reported on Oct. 9, 2013, that the man was arrested back in June for an incident that involved him going on a tirade and then plotting to extort $2 million from the Girl Scouts of America.
Dan Sandler is the man inside the suit and he was sentenced on Wednesday after pleading guilty to attempted grand larceny and misdemeanor stalking. This was part of his deal with prosecutors.
He told the court during his sentencing: “I accept the fact I committed a crime, but I’m not in anyway sorry to the Girl Scouts organization.”
Sandler had been accused of threatening to publicize false information about the Girl Scouts and he ordered money to keep quiet. He would send harassing emails and photos to an employee of the nonprofit organization with the hopes of making his accusations stronger.
Some of those emails including nude self portraits.
Last year, he was arrested in Times Square while wearing the Elmo costume and causing a huge scene that blocked traffic. He also pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct.
A defense attorney for the Anti-Semitic Elmo has said that Sandler's threats were never anything serious or real.
