The anti-Semitic Elmo, who was dubbed the “evil” Elmo after going on anti-Semitic tirades and threatening to falsely accuse the Girl Scouts on various charges, pleaded guilty this week and has been sentenced to jail; he will be going behind bars for one year. TIME reports this Thursday, Oct. 10, that the man who dressed in an Elmo outfit more than once in Times Square was also fined $2 million for his efforts in attempting to extort the Girl Scouts of America.
An anti-Semitic Elmo sounds terrible in itself, but this “Sesame Street” character’s actions were truly shocking. Prosecutors say that this falsely accusing Elmo is actually Dan (“Adam”) Sandler, 49 years old, who threatened two employees of the Girl Scouts that he would say they were pimping out girls for sex with men for money.
Sandler pleaded guilty on the charges of attempted extortion and stalking in order to receive a lighter overall criminal sentence. He still will spend a year behind bars, however, and showed no remorse for his actions.
“If I go the controversial route I will probably publish fictitious content about the Girl Scouts. And name names….Like your name! Because you were my caring supervisor who now gives me the silence [sic] treatment," Sandler added before pleading guilty.
The 49-year-old Sandler as the anti-Semitic Elmo still says the Girl Scouts of America is an “evil organization,” and his false accusations were a protest against their “corruptness because of their correlation with the pharmaceutical industry.”
Sandler has also been arrested on counts of grand larceny and aggravated harassment. He was living in a car at the time of the attempted extortion.
