A hundred people rallied outside Independence Hall yesterday to decry Arizona's anti-immigration bill. The funny thing is that you don't have to be able to read English to know that Philadelphia is not in Arizona. Although Pennsylvania (and 17 other states) are drafting a bill similar to Arizona's, people seem to get their jollies by picking on a state 3,000 miles away.
It's really amazing how the Liberal mindset works. Remember Prop 8 in California - the gay marriage bill that got shot down by mostly minority Obama voters? Remember how proponents of the bill complained about too much "outside interference" from anti-gay marriage people in other States? It's laughable that it's only ok to interfere in another state's business when you're a Big Government Puppet against an issue?
100 people is about as popular as resistance to the anti-immigration bill is going to get. Polls have the popularity of Arizona's SB 1070 nationwide at 60% and those nationwide numbers are about equaled here in the Keystone State. People across the board, from all points of the ideological spectrum feel that not only has the federal government not done a good enough job enforcing it. A lot of other people also know that there are provisions in the Constitution that allow States to protect themselves.
Philadelphia City Council has already wasted taxpayer money by passing a resolution condemning Arizona. Never mind the fact that Philly doesn't really do any business with that state in the first place. It's amazing how our own City government has somehow built an interest in what goes on in the other part of the country but could care less about what happens in its own City. This resolution also is a blatant statement that Philly is becoming the new Los Angeles or San Francisco of the east coast and would welcome illegals with open arms. You have to wonder how people in, say, Port Richmond feel about that one.
Why is there this attitude that wanting someone to become a citizen the right way or to learn a language is somehow racist or prejudiced? Try moving to a non-English speaking country and demanding that the government reprint everything in your native tongue, change street signs, provide assistance in your language - you'll get laughed at.
Legal immigrants in this country have a problem with illegal immigrants as well. There are too many people who come to this country legally with no money, learn English, work hard and don't get any handouts. That's the problem people have: No one has a problem with immigration, no one has a problem with people wanting to be citizens. It's the outrageous goal of Democrats, Socialists and other Liberals to legalize these criminals to get votes for themselves. No one wants to give handouts to people who are simply going to take that money and give it back to their family who lives in another country.
Philadelphia Police claim they'd have a hard time enforcing such a law if it were to touchdown in Pennsylvania, citing that they couldn't do anything without "profiling". If you actually read Arizona's SB 1070, there is not a single word to describe anyone's race or ethnicity. Therefore, assuming that an illegal immigrant is of a certain race is racist. Commissioner Ramsey must have instead glanced over page 15 in the Arlene Ackerman Handbook for Winning Philosophies.
Yes illegal immigration affects Philly, just not as bad - yet - as other parts of the country. It's just wise for the City to butt out on this one and for people to realize that Arizona has every right to pass its own laws, something that's widely popular in its own state, and could really care less about people who don't buy anything from their state in the first place. Could you imagine if someone in Texas started protesting Mayor Nutter's soda tax idea?
No matter what they show on mainstream TV or print in the mainstream newspapers, people like this bill. This bill is definitely something we need for this country. The next step after getting these tens of millions of people siphoning at our money out of this country is to get rid of the welfare state completely. No handouts, no gimmes, no safety net.
If you don't agree with those ideas or you'd still like handouts, why not go speak to Mexican President Calderon? After all, he's telling his people to come here illegally - how would he feel if you illegally jumped over Mexico's border? Oh, yeah, that's right - Mexico has the death penalty for illegal immigration.

Um, Prop 8 was an Anti Gay Marriage bill, and it didn't get shot down, it passed. And a protest in PA is a little different than the Mormon Church investing tens of millions of dollars in a ballot initiative that was outside of Utah and had no practical effect on the church.
Whatevs, I think readers generally caught on to what I mean. After all, I live in Pennsylvania and don't get into California's business, since they are 3,000 miles away from me. And it's not a little different with cities threatening boycotts and celebrities telling people not to go to Arizona. I think we should boycott California: they are now borrowing money from my State and others. Who asked me if they could have my money? Let it sink into the ocean.
Also - what I was TRYING to say was that a bunch of "open-minded" people who wanted "change" voted AGAINST gay marriage in California. You guys blame the Mormons when it's really people who still don't have a popular view of gay people (blacks, Mexicans, other minorities) who voted the most on it.
Do you support SB 1070? Do you oppose SB 1070? ... law enforcement has the right to inquire about your immigration status if they have reasonable suspicion
