Out of 44 Georgia Senators, how many do you think would vote for a resolution that declared it was up to the states to decide "how far the licentiousness of speech and of the press may be abridged,” not the Bill of Rights, that states had the right to "nullify" any Federal Law they disagree with (Did they accept desegregation willingly?) , and that the United States ceases to exist if any gun control legislation passes? Five? Ten?
Try 43.
As yet more evidence that there are a group of people who simply download their marching orders and hit the streets without caring much what it is they're angry about, there are even well-funded "grassroots" organizations pushing this nonsense. Activate! (New whack-o code word watch: "10th Amendment")
It might behoove the Georgia Senate to read some history. The idea of "nullification" was used to justify secession, but the Civil War decided that issue once and for all.
Or, maybe not. Nullification was again used to justify ignoring Federal enforcement of Civil Rights legislation in the 50s and 60s, and the Governor himself couldn't stop the Feds from marching the blacks through the school doors.
Even Texas, an independent nation, once they joined the Union might have asserted its right to secede, and they did -- in the Civil War -- and they lost. Whatever "right" they had, we have precdence that shows quite clearly how inalienable it is.
According to columnist Jay Bookman, the resolution has been hailed by "those fighting the conspiracy to create a single North American country, by the Confederate States Militia, by the John Birch Society, and the League of the South, which still pines for the cause of an “independent South” and believes that “Southern society is radically different from the society impressed upon it by an alien occupier.”
How many other states would be unpatriotic enough to seriously pass this nonsense?
Two: Oklahoma and South Dakota.
Why do they hate America, so?

Maybe they should start seceding by sending all that federal money back? Because it really isn't about seceding.
If it was, they would have started this miss during the last administration when that do nothing approach to government put us in this hole.
This is all about a black president in office. They'd better thank their lucky stars he's much more than a black man because a past president catching gruff from stupid states would have taken it out on their coiffeurs. It happens.
Even without political backlash, states behaving this poorly at a time when everybody is suffering should really proceed with caution.
Things have a way of dumping on the dumpers.
Remember when banks wrangled with the real estate industry, demanding they be allowed to sell real estate?
They now know what it means to be careful what you ask for.
What a sack of collectivist crap. The Georgia Senate voted to *uphold* the Constitution in light of the fact that the Constitution is not being respected in the slightest by those in power in DC (from either party).
How dare you disrespect my state!! We're sick and tired of our irresponsible big government trying to take control of our lives and robbing the kids future. You've all been told the South would rise again, and, well, it may just happen!! Two arms down in Dixie!!
Shudda read:
One Anti-American member of the Georgia legislature voted against the bill to nullify Constitution, disolve Union.
The otha 43 wuz da real 'mericans.

"Maybe they should start seceding by sending all that federal money back? Because it really isn't about seceding."
How about the States just not send any money to the Federal Government in the first place???? Then they won't have to worry about getting a portion returned.
BTW...28 States are considering similar resolutions ..you know to assert their 9th and 10th Amendment Constitutional Rights. According to our Author, the topic of Constitutional Law seems to have been settled in 1865 with a gun and not a court room. Or in short, the "Constitution" doesn't matter. This begs the question, who are the true patriots? Those who stand with the Constitution or those who cast it aside in support of Federal Power?
The "examiner" has a very limited and myopic view of government and what has transpired.
Getting on to the "Send Federal money back....", well, can I remind everyone that the vast majority of the money used by the Feds come from citizens and companies in the United States.
Perhaps, as many have suggested, the Feds should quit digging as deep into our pockets as they do; reduce government; and let locals get on to create a more vibrant, successful, and freer society.
The current "liberal" government has crossed the line many, many times. They have, in essence, "enslaved" our citizens financially. We have become endentured to them for the next few decades and place an unpresidented national debt on us, our children and grandchildren. They are pushing legislation on "hate speech" which, in essence, limits free speech beyond the concepts of law and common sense. They are directing the DOD to redesign the "two theater" war principle and reduce it to a "single theater" principle. Suggestions have been made that the NASA budget be suspended and that the US be dependent on the Russians from 2010 to 2015 for space travel, launches, etc. while NASA is reexamined. All in all, it appears that our government is being reshaped so that the Government is the sole source all all things for all people.
Be careful of what you wish for.
