Anthrax Worship Music: Album marks the band's 30th anniversary

Welcoming Joey Belladonna back into the fold, Anthrax are ready to unleash the fury with new album Worship Music. The thrash rockers released first single Fight'em 'Til You Can't as a free download in June on their website and are eyeing a Sept. 13 street date for Worship Music, their first studio album in eight years.

Coincidentally, the same date their Big 4-play mates Megadeth release TH1RT3EN reuniting Dave Mustaine and Dave Ellefson. Kumbaya everyone, kumbaya.

The album was originally scheduled to be released in 2009 but vocalist Dan Nelson was shown the revolving door throwing a wrench into those plans. Focus turned to John Bush who rejoined the band for summer festival dates, but the singer did not want to commit and remains with Armored Saint.

So Joey Belladonna came on down.  It’s amazing what time, and a failed solo career can do for ones perspective. Joey was part of the “classic lineup” and with him the band issued some of their greatest material. Despite its greatness I would choose Among The Living over Sound of White Noise any minute of the day.

For the 11-tracks the band hooked up with The Donnas producer Jay Ruston recording over a four year period. Belladonna re-recorded the work Nelson laid down tweaking the lyrics to better suit his "vibe and energy" while other songs were trashed and replaced with brand new ones.

Scott Ian admits, “We had the luxury of hindsight with this album. We were able to live with the songs we originally recorded, look back on them and see what we really loved about them and what we could make better.”

“I’m very happy with the record, it sounds like Anthrax,” Belladonna says. “There are some interesting twists and turns on it, and plenty of tunes for fans to get their fingers on. I felt very comfortable working with Jay Ruston and I think everyone brought to the table what they needed to. I’m really excited.”
