Anthony Vaccarello just a couple of years ago was a complete unknown. An up and coming talented demure designer; after Jennifer Lopez arrived at the 55th Annual GRAMMY Awards in Los Angeles, California, recently wearing a black Anthony Vaccarello draped techno satin long dress, he is fashion royalty.
The Roman Emperor Diocletian in the 4th Century, adopted the custom of wearing gold, and silk robes, and wore shoes that were studded with the most precious gems, befitting his claim of Divinity. He flattered himself that an ostentation of splendor and luxury would subdue the rude license of the people. He was so motivated by vanity.
Today the worship of Hollywood celebrity has taken on the same ostentatious display and custom; minus the court eunuchs who used to guard the throne from invasive interlopers. An A- list celebrity wearing your clothes is a mark of Divinity.
What is left to conquer once one has arrived is the question of the moment. In Paris today, Anthony showed a much more toned down, street, urban, practical collection that featured an exclusive black and white dress code. Leather dresses, without a peak of the hyper sexuality that launched is stardom look more wearable and suitable for us commoners. The plebeians have to dress too.
If a mind is a terrible thing to waste; so is talent when it is wasted on the services of celebrities who use/wear your clothes for status. Anthony shows he is not shy to dress an A-list celebrity; but will he succumb to the seduction of fame and monetary gain at the expense of artistic integrity?
