Producing new artist’s projects is not the only thing Anthony Smith is producing or rather re-producing these days. I am referring to the beautiful little baby girl that was born just a little over a month ago. Anthony and Lindsay have named their little girl McCartney Blaze in honor of that very famous Beatle and are enjoying spending time with her and settling into a routine. Anthony tells me he is loving fatherhood the 2nd time around and never had any trouble changing diapers, not back then and not now.
Anthony truly is a a very special man and I am sure women reading this article will agree that it is very hard to find a man that will change diapers.
We set up this interview so I could catch up with what he has been doing the last few months and what his plans are as a songwriter, musician, performer and producer and this is what he had to say:
Q Being a new daddy is going to fill up your heart and take up a lot of your time. You guys are just adjusting right?
A Yeah she is just a month old and so it’s been great, I just love it. I know most Dad’s don’t like to change diapers but it doesn’t bother me at all.
Q You don’t mind changing diapers?
A It doesn’t bother me at all. Hey, this is part of life and I love taking care of my daughter. I changed my son’s diapers when he was little and he is a man now but yeah, those little things, you don’t even think about them.
Q You just brought up your son. I see the other day on Facebook you announced that your son is actually one of the members of the new duo 13.
A Yes, they are in rehearsals right now and they are fixin to do some shows.
Q You are producing them right?
A Yeah.
Q I thought you were.
A His record is so good. It’s got a lot of buzz already and the record companies want to meet with them.
Q That’s great, you will need to keep us updated on what is happening with 13. Now, let’s talk about your show on March 13th, with the Anaconda Cowboys backing you up, tell me about them?
A They are an all star cast of musician musicians and they are all well known. Bobby Terry is just such a great musician and Pat McDonald, my favorite drummer in the world and of course Dane Bryant and of course those three guys we are going to be doing an instrumental thing but yeah they are some of my best friends as well. We are close and have been playing for so many years.
Q What other gigs do your guys normally do?
A They are session players. Bobby mainly does sessions and is a producer as well. He actually produced my first record on Mercury. He has played with other artists and everything. There is Dane Bryant who is on keyboards. I think currently he plays on a lot of sessions and he has been on tour with Olivia Newton John and was with Clint Black for gosh, the beginning of his career I think. Of course Pat has been with Charlie Daniels for twelve years maybe and Charlie only hires top notch guys so it is always great when Pat can go out with me. Dave is a fantastic bass player. He plays with a bunch of guys around Nashville and is recording his own solo project.
Q And Lucy Angel is your special guest that night?
A Yes and they are great. With them you get that great rich family harmony and they have been singing a lot together. They used to go out full band all the time and they have actually gone down to an acoustic thing and it really gives more room for the vocals to really stand out. Yeah, it is going to be fun. They always put on a good show. They are a lot of fun to work with too.
Q So you are producing them too?
A Yes.
Q Wow, and then of course you have all the other people that you are producing?
A Yeah. The Shea Fisher project is really going great. It is a really slow process the way we are making it. It’s basically I think how they made rock and roll records back in the 70’s. It’s really a slow kind of build the tracks and experiment to find that thing you know and that’s what we are doing and it’s just so good and exciting. She is a little pistol. Those Australian girls are tough and she is a rodeo champion, her and her Dad so there is no quit in her that is for sure.
Q So, it has been two years since you have done a full band show in Nashville or anywhere, are you looking forward to it?
A Oh yeah. It is going to be great. We are going to go out there and have fun and entertain everyone.
With that I wrapped up the interview and said my goodbyes. I know I am certainly looking forward to the show and I wouldn’t be anywhere else but 3rd & Lindsley’s on March 13th, 2013. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and people wanting to get in should buy their tickets in advance to make sure they can get in.
