On Saturday, Anthony Kiedis and Flea participated in theSurfrider's Celebrity Expression Session on September 11th, and a new interview with AK sporting a serious mustache that appeared on the web Thursday courtesy of Stacey from Hollywood's List and posted by RHCP_ARE_GODS on StadiumArcadium.com revealed some interesting insight into the Surfrider Foundation (surfrider.org), the new RHCP album and Kiedis's apparent first public acknowledgment of John Frusciante's departure from the band.
"Well, Surfrider...you hear the name around and you're not exactly sure what they do...they monitor the water and the beaches and see if the water's clean, if it's not clean, if the beaches are dirty and then they let people know that it's dirty and what can we do about it to clean it up and I really like clean water..." - Anthony Kiedis
The 5th Annual edition of the event began at 12pm last Saturday north of the Pier in Malibu, California. In addition to Kiedis and Flea, Jane's Addiction bassist Eric Avery and various other celebrity surfers were in attendance.
Kiedis described his "three years and about a week" of surfing as "pretty magical...and to sound a little spiritually cliché, it's very meditative..."
AK was then asked if he had any music in the works and he responded with this: "Well, we've been writing songs for about 11 months; about 11 months ago our guitar player, John Frusciante (http://www.myspace.com/johnfrusciantemusic), decided to move on...it was one of those moments where, 'is this a good thing or a bad thing?', and then, we realized, 'this is a good thing', for him, because he wants to experience other avenues, and it's a good thing for us as well because we happened to know a guy we really wanted to play music with (Josh Klinghoffer - www.facebook.com/joshklinghoffer - www.myspace.com/joshklinghofferunofficial - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Josh_Klinghoffer) and then we just started writing songs and now we have many to record and we start on Monday (09/13/2010)...and I'm particularly happy with the batch of songs that we have...Our style's a little bit on the undefinable side, I mean, anything goes...hard, soft, slow ,fast, funky, heavy, jazzy...there's a little bit of everything, but it is spirited, and of this moment..."
