Guess who crashed Bruno Mars’s party? The 28-year-old pop singer had some welcome visitors during his Super Bowl halftime show, when The Red Hot Chili Peppers stormed the stage mid-performance.
Mars opened with his smash single "Locked Out of Heaven,” before segueing into “Treasure” and “Runaway Baby,” which led into a collaboration with The Chili Peppers on the band’s 1990s hit, “Give It Away.” For the finale, Mars slowed things down with his song "Just the Way You Are," which featured a tribute to American troops.
"The conversation had occurred prior over the years," Kiedis said backstage, after his band’s performance of their classic song. As for the chilly show at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., the 51-year old rocker -- who took the stage shirtless – said, "It could have been snowing, sleeting, raining. It would have been nice tonight, but rehearsals were a bit nippy.”
The band also toasted the halftime show headliner. "Bruno Mars is a complete and utter gentleman. I gained a ton of respect. He was awesome, intelligent (and) kind," Kiedis said.
While Kiedis braved the East Coast elements by baring his abs, he kept his lower half warm with some high-end leggings. According to MTV, the internet-glorifying printed leggings were designed by Jeremy Scott, and come from the designer’s Fall/Winter 2012 collection.
