The main objective in the co-main event at UFC Fight Night was to showcase the rejuvenated and talented Anthony Johnson in front of a nationally televised audience. At the SAP Center in San Jose, California he did just that against an aging legend, Rogerio Nogueira.
The fight was over rather quickly as Johnson unloaded a series of punches that knocked out Nogueira leaving him busted up badly on the canvas.
Johnson has two impressive victories in 2014 including a dominant unanimous decision victory over Phil Davis and now a highlight knock out over an MMA legend.
Johnson, from Dublin, Georgia, who now trains with the Blackzilians in Florida has twice collected knock out of the night awards and on Saturday, July 26, 2014 he added another post fight bonus with his destruction of Nogueira.
“I think I did alright,” Johnson stated, “I knew I had to get the finish because Nogueria is so strong and never gives up.
Two fights back into the UFC, Johsnon is rededicated, reenergized and now capable of making weight as a light heavyweight. After his performance at UFC Fight night he is clearly capable of taking on any and all challengers at the light heavyweight division.
“I’m ready for any fighter at anytime. I’ll even fill in for Ovince St. Preux or Ryan Bader in their fight if one of them drops off. I am not afraid of anyone in the division. “Now that he is fighting in a weight class that is not taking a physical toll on his body and with his knockout victory at UFC Fight Night the feeling might not be mutual with others in his division.
