LSU's Anthony Jennings received SEC co-Freshman of the Week honors on Monday, December 2, 2013 after taking over at the quarterback position after an injury to starting quarterback Zach Mettenberger in last week's game with Arkansas.
The Tigers won the game in a dramatic fashion in the final few minutes of the game. Jennings led the Tigers to victory in a 99-yard drive that ended with a touchdown by Travin Dural to capture the win, 31-27 over Arkansas
Jennings completed four of seven passes in the game for 76 yards, including the 46 yard pass to Dural for the win. Jennings played in eight games this season, but had the most impact in the game against Arkansas.
Mettenberger was injured mid-way through the 4th quarter of the game when his knee was bent backwards after a hit by Arkansas' Byron Jones. Mettenberger was fitted with crutches and did not re-enter the game or speak with the press following the win.
It was announced Tuesday that Mettenberger had a torn ACL and will not be back in play for the remainder of the post-season. He finished the game going over 3000 passing yards for the season with 156 yards in the game against Arkansas. He was sacked three times by the Razorbacks.
Chris Jones, DT, Mississippi State was named as the other SEC co-Freshman of the week.
LSU is expected to get a bid in a holiday bowl game this coming weekend. At present time it is expected that Jennings will have another opportunity to shine for the Tigers.
