Juan Montoya brought his #42 Target Chevy home 8th yesterday in Phoenix. For the 2009 Chase it was his sixth top ten finish. While that is a tremendous accomplishment, this team will have to take one more step to be worthy of a Cup series title.
However with all the success during this year’s chase this team has a solid foundation to build on for the future. Juan and crew chief Brian Pattie are a solid team, they work well together, and that should lead to a bright 2010 campaign.
This is a team that now knows what it takes to win a Cup title. First they have to make the chase, then they have to run in the top five, and more than likely they will have to win at least four of the 10 chase races to be the Sprint Cup Champion.
Winning is the only chink in this teams armor. They have learned how to run in the top ten each week, and now must learn how to turn that high running position into wins. Once they do that, this could be an unstoppable team.
