With the popularity of AMC’s The Walking Dead, the announcement was just released that a companion series is set to air in 2015. The Walking Dead creator, Robert Kirkman, and producers Glae Ann Hurd and David Alpert are on board for the new series.

ScreenRant reports the following quote from Kirkman regarding the new series:

“After 10 years of writing the comic book series and being so close to the debut of our fourth, and in my opinion, best season of the TV series, I couldn’t be more thrilled about getting the chance to create a new corner of ‘The Walking Dead’ universe,” said Kirkman. “The opportunity to make a show that isn’t tethered by the events of the comic book, and is truly a blank page, has set my creativity racing.”

It is being called a companion series because it will be set in a different location with new characters and will follow how they deal with the zombie apocalypse. It is possible that AMC is setting things up to replace Walking Dead with this new series, like it is doing with Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. Meanwhile, fans will get a double dose of zombies and unforgettable characters facing their fears.

The Walking Dead returns for its fifth season on October 13, 2014.
