Citizens testified against building a potential senior citizens center at the St. Louis County Council meeting on Tuesday, June 11th 2013. The St. Louis County and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) was working on building an senior citizens center in Oakville Missouri. On Tuesday September 3rd, a group of Senators and Senator Scott testified against building a it again. The County Council didn't make a decision on the plan.
After the public testimonies, the Council perfected an bill proposed by Councilman Mike O'Mara to require background checks, including criminal and credit checks, for appointees to the County's Police Commissioners. Councilwoman Burkett opposed the credit check requirement. O'Mara pointed out that the police officers are required to undergo credit checks do to state law.
