It seems as if there will be no let-up in the tensions surrounding the tragic situation in Tibet for a long time. Phayul.com reported on Sept. 28, 2013, "Tibetan man immolates self in Ngaba." Today at about 4:30 PM local time a Tibetan man died after setting himself on fire in Gomang Thawa township in Ngaba County.
While his body was in flames, 41 year old Shichung ran from his house towards the main road before he collapsed. Shichung succumbed to his burns and died at the site of his protest. Local Tibetans attempted to take his body to his home after his self-immolation protest, but were eventually confronted by Chinese security personnel. The Chinese authorities confiscated the body and drove with it towards Ngaba county.
Just yesterday Shichung is said to have told a friend, “These Chinese will not let us live, I think I should burn myself in front of them.” He lit a lamp in front of a portrait of His Holiness the Dalai Lama before he set himself on fire. This is a very sad time for his wife and two children, and other Tibetans. There have been about 121 self-immolation protests against Chinese rule in Tibet since 2009.
