To love, and to be loved.
Second Chance for Love is an annual, nation-wide PetSmart event held on Valentine's weekend. Today the local PetSmart, located 3736 SW Archer Road, held an adopt-a-thon from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. If you missed out, it's not too late there will be another adopt-a-thon at the same location from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
Animals have a special though often neglected part of the Christian life style. If we look in the first chapter of Genesis we find we have a very big role in the lives of animals. A very big responsibility we often ignore.
In Genesis 1:26 (NIV) it says, 26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, [b] and over all the creatures that move along the ground." This is repeated again in verse 28.
Have we been good stewards of the animals on this earth? The more important question is up to you, Have you been a good steward? Thousands of dogs and cats are killed in the US everyday because someone wasn't a good steward. Here in Florida, even big snakes (boas) are causing huge problems because people are not being responsible. If you've been thinking about getting a pet and don't know what to get, consider adopting. Why spend $1500 on a thorough bred, when you can find the love of your life in a mutt with those puppy-eyes. Give it some thought.
Also at the event will be members from UF's Alpha Epsilon Pi and from the Alachua County animal shelter (where most of the animals will come from).
It only takes 30 minutes to fill out the paperwork and interview process to get yourself a new companion. Prices range from $50-300 depending the number of additional services you purchase like spaying/neutering, microchips, vaccinations, worm tests and flea prevention.
