Another major anniversary event from San Francisco Performances

The Alexander String Quartet (ASQ), consisting of Zakarias Grafilo and Frederick Lifsitz, violins, Paul Yarbrough, viola, and Sandy Wilson, cello, has now matured to its 30th season.  To honor the occasion, San Francisco Performances (SFP) has organized a special anniversary concert, with special guests, to take place on February 4 at Herbst Theatre.  This event will feature the world premiere of a new work by composer/pianist Jake Heggie, in collaboration with lyricist Gene Scheer, entitled “Camille Claudel:  Into the Fire.”  This composition, based on the life of a woman who had a passionate affair with August Rodin while trying to establish her reputation as an artist in her own right, has been scored for string quartet and mezzo-soprano;  and Joyce DiDonato will join the ASQ to present its premiere performance.  Prior to the performance of this new work, Heggie will accompany DiDonato in a performance of Reynaldo Hahn’s 1901 cycle of six songs in Venetian dialect, Venezia;  and the ASQ will perform Claude Debussy’s only string quartet, his Opus 10 in G minor.

This recital in honor of ASQ’s 30th anniversary will take place at 8 PM on Saturday, February 4, in Herbst Theatre (410 Van Ness Avenue).  Tickets for the concert are currently on sale for $70, $55, and $45.  Further information may be obtained from SFP at 415-392-2545.  Tickets may also be purchased through the Web page for this event.
