When the specifications of the Xbox One and its features were released, Microsoft suffered a barrage of complaints from fans and critics alike. There were accusations of draconian content controller and surveillance. After some corporate restructuring and the complete reversal of its more controversial policies regarding the functions of the Xbox One, Microsoft is well on its way to rebuilding confidence in the Xbox One. In light of the Xbox One’s comeback, the Atlantic City Xbox Examiner will take a look at the upcoming inaugural release of the Xbox One: the Xbox One Day One Edition.
Xbox One Day One Edition physical content
1. The Xbox One console
It would be kind of silly to leave out the main attraction.
2. Kinect for the Xbox One console
The implementation of the Kinect with the Xbox One has been the centerpiece of controversy and is often used to explain why the Xbox One will be retailing for $499 instead of the originally speculated $399.
3. Commemorative Xbox One controller
Going by the images released by Xbox.com, the commemorative controller simply has “Day One 2013” in the center of the controller. A little more decoration would have been nice.
4. HDMI cable
Based on Monster Cable prices, the inclusion of an HDMI might be the real reason that the console will retail for almost five-hundred dollars. Visit Monoprice.com for all your cable needs and tell the stores pushing ridiculously overpriced cables to get stuffed.
5. Xbox One chat headset
Online gaming is the focal point of Xbox One, so including a rather sleek headset was to be expected.
Xbox One Day One Edition digital content
1. Achievement exclusive to owners of the Xbox One Day One Edition
Hopefully Microsoft will decide to poke fun at their controversial birthday reward and make the achievement worth 25 points.
2. DLC for Forza Motorsport 5, Ryse: Son of Rome, and Dead Rising 3
The nature of the DLC has yet to be announced, but a safe bet would be avatar items. However, Microsoft has been working closely with the developers of the games, so there could be actual game content in the form of custom skins, costumes, and accessories.
Xbox Live Gold Membership promo
A special Day One 12-Month Xbox Live Gold Membership card is available for pre-order. The commemorative card will come with a case and include a code for the exclusive Shadow Jago character for Killer Instinct (“Day One 12-Month Xbox Live Gold Membership”, 2013). It should be noted that Killer Instinct will be available for free when the Xbox One console launches so consumers will not have to also purchase a full game to enjoy the bonus content (FilthieRich, 2013).
Four-hundred and ninety-nine dollars is a hefty investment for a gaming console, but the Xbox One promises to be much more than that. The Xbox One is set to become the central multimedia device of households as the demand for streaming media, immersion, and device interconnectivity grows. When the Xbox One console is released this November, we shall see if Microsoft was able to recover from a stumbling start to reach even greater success than what the Xbox 360 brought them. The Xbox One Day One Edition is available for pre-order through the online Microsoft store and participating retailers while supplies.
